“It shouldn’t take an officer down for communities to realize cops are only human. But when a hit-and-run driver reportedly reversed on Interstate 80 Thursday, running over a motorcycle officer other drivers risked their own lives to stay by his side.” – Nicole Comstock

It really should not take that, but sadly it does. The average person is so sheltered from the crap we see and deal with on a daily basis, it takes an incident like this to open their eyes to the evil that is out there. Sadly, while they realize it now, most of them, even those that witnessed this incident first hand, will quickly fall back into their previous subconscious denial.

The following comment epitomizes exactly what I am talking about.

“How heartless can you be to just do that to someone?” Vavak asked.

There are hundreds of thousands of examples of answers to that question sitting in jails and prisons all across this country.  There are thousands more examples still roaming loose on the street. All one needs do is examine the reports taken on a daily basis in any large city throughout this country to see the evidence, but people don’t.  People really don’t want to know.

To quote Agent K from Men In Black,

“Humans for the most part don’t have a clue. They don’t want one or need one either. They’re happy. They think they have a good bead on things.”

I do not hold that outlook against anyone. I do not begrudge anyone who does not understand the evil that lives in the hearts of some people. I only wish society, especially those who like to denigrate law enforcement, could realize what they don’t know.

To Mr. Vavak and all the other people who stopped to help my downed brother in blue, from the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank you.
